Research:
Molecular laboratory spectroscopy of atmospheric, astrophysic or metrologic relevance

Unstable molecules

Several ways of producing unstable molecules (microwave reactor, radio-frequency reactor, discharge tubes...have been implemented and are coupled to our interferometer.
Between 2000 and 2004, we have been conducting research involving emission spectroscopy experiments and their interpretation.

In particular:
Vibration–rotation bands of the Δv=1 sequence of ArH+ are recorded from the emission of a discharge tube between 1800 and 2830 cm-1.  The analysis of the relative line intensities of the four lowest transitions made possible the determination of their Herman–Wallis factors. The ratios of first- and second-order coefficients of the dipole moment function to the permanent dipole moment M0 are derived and the absolute values of the vibrational transition moments are determined, with no need of the ion concentration.
Emission from H12C14N from a radio-frequency excited plasma is reported in the 2400–3400 cm-1 spectral range of astrophysical interest. The molecular constants, for 21 vibration–rotation bands are given, as well as estimates of the first-order Herman-Wallis coefficients for 11 bands.

The emission spectrum of the X 4Φ - C 4Δ, Δ v=0 transitions of 48Ti35Cl, with v = 0,1,2,3, around 3 µm has been recorded. Perturbations affecting the C 4Δ1/2  v = 0, 1, 2 levels have been accounted for. They arise both from L-doubling and avoided crossing phenomena induced by the never observed B 4P and A 4S- states.
